New Year’s greeting manners resulted from our people’s tradition of respecting the senior and treasuring the etiquette.
For our people who treasuring the etiquette and morality, New Year’s greeting was one of the most important New Year’s functions.
First of all, our people offered New Year greeting to their deceased ancestors early in the morning of New Year’s Day.
They set the table simply and offered New Year greeting to their ancestors in turn.
They used to put a rice cake soup together with a few dishes on the table.
So the table of New Year’s Day was called a《rice cake soup table》.
Then, they offered New Year’s greeting to the seniors. This was just a New Year’s greeting.
New Year’s greeting was offered to the seniors according to age in the family. Then, they went to the seniors and mentors of their village for New Year’s greeting.
Seham was one of New Year’s greeting manners, too.
According to the old records, our people used to come back after putting down a piece of paper on which their names were written on the table provided at the inside of the main door of their houses if their senior and mentor were not in their houses. This was called Seham.
Seham was regarded as one of the convenient manners of replacing New Year’s greeting with the writings.
The owner of the house knew who had come for New Year’s greeting from the pieces of paper.
